Stampede is a great time of year.
Stampede is also a terrifying time of year.
Great time:

- Chocolate covered cheesecake.
- Real cowboys.
- Fireworks
- Rodeo/Chuckwagons for sports highlights every night.
- Country music EVERYWHERE.
- Everyone having a good time.
- Cowboy boots and cowboy hats.
- WINE GARDEN.
Terrifying time:
- Girls wearing clothes that do not fit them.
- Thugs everywhere.
- Creepy guys EVERYWHERE.
- Unwanted groping.
- Crowds.
- Smell of sweat and deep fryer.
- 1,000,000 degrees outside.
- Hundreds of "Punk"/"Emo" kids at Simple Plan concert.
- Drunk teeny boppers everywhere.
- Angry/Heat exhausted parents.
- Crazy/weird people (especially after approx. 8pm)

I had my interview with the school board yesterday. Totally aced it. Can't wait to hear back in the next few weeks!
And my boyfriend is absolutely amazing. Spending the entire day making sure that everything was perfect for me so that I could focus on my interview and nothing else. I hope every woman out there is as lucky as me.

Last week I was able to travel to Saskatchewan to visit J's grandmother. What a great experience. I have only ever been out that way once before, for a soccer tournament when I was 16.
Here are some of the main points of the trip:
Here are some of the main points of the trip:
- Saskatchewan is seriously flat.
- The drive is SO boring. And looong.
- We stayed in an old folks home. I had no idea you could even do that!
- J's grandmother is one of the most precious people I have ever met. She is in her 90s and still has a good head on her shoulders. I am so happy to have been given the opportunity to have met her.
- I went out to J's farm - it was so beautiful. The house was built in 1905 and they had a bunch of old barns and tractors.
- I got to shoot a gun for the first time! I shot a giant shot gun that had a bitch of a recoil. It slipped when I pulled the trigger and actually hit my bicep, not my shoulder. My arm instantly went numb and I had a giant bruise.
- I then got to shoot a rifle which was soo easy in comparison.
- I GOT TO DRIVE A TRACTOR! A FUCKING TRACTOR!
- Some of the trees on J's farm were hit by lightening and we charred all the way up. So neat.
- Small town people are SO friendly.
- We rented a canoe and J took me around the lake in it.
- I am so country!
- But not actually. My boyfriend is though.
- I had such a great time <3
- Then we came back to Calgary to see all the fake cowboys and cowgirls that were out for Stampede.

Movie Review: Magic Mike
Too much plot line, not enough stripping.
I hate Matthew McConaughey but he does have a pretty nice body.
Oh and Joe Manganiello definitely needed more onscreen stripping time. Without a doubt.

Had the most amazing night last night with my bff
V, I'm so glad I found a best friend who is just as much of a dork as I am.
There is definitely a reason as to why we've been best friends since grade seven.
Love you girl.

Making our little getaway
currently renovating the basement and FML.
I am literally washing the walls. with a sponge. and a bucket.
Not the floor... THE WALLS.
This is after I spent the entire day cooking meals and cleaning.
I feel like Cinderella.
But before she met Prince Charming. Y'know, when she was like a servant.
Can't wait for how great it is going to look once its done!

The most random interview ever.
![]() |
| I feel like I need to go to an interview wearing a shirt like this. Or something similar. |
I mentioned yesterday that I had a group interview today.
It was the most random two hours of my life.
A girl's boob popped out mid-interview, during one of our group discussions. Like, I saw her nipple.
I think its fair to suggest that it was a little inappropriate. There is a good chance she won't be getting the position.
In one part I had to go out to the learning floor and facilitate with kids.
One of the dads hit on me. He was wearing a wedding ring and was with his two daughters. Douche.
One of the interviewer observers (who was assessing me at the time) just stood there, shook her head, and walked away.
Finally, if you ever feel bad about an interview that didn't go well, at least you didn't answer a question saying that you would go to the morgue. THE MORGUE. I told her that if I could go anywhere to learn more about the human body then I would go to the MORGUE. Holy fuck. The lady probably thinks I'm a fucking psychopath. FML.
How is this my life right now?

Went to the zoo yesterday
- Penguins are the most amazing animals ever.
- I sort've want one as a pet.
- Except for their poop. That was disgusting.
- They sort've smell too.
- They are fricken cute though.
- I saw a spider monkey swinging around with his wiener out. It was traumatizing.
- I also saw a gorilla running around with a potato sack on its head.
- Besides the penguins, the butterfly conservatory was my absolute favourite. So beautiful.
- Overall a perfect day with the man I love.
the completely mature way to deal with a long distance relationship.
- a day full of tears
- a giant bowl of ice cream
- a bottle of wine
but I still hate saying goodbye.

Why I Hate Calgary Sometimes
Hundreds of Greenview residents irate over hotel conversion to low income housing
This infuriates me. I am so sick of people making ignorant and discriminatory statements with little education regarding the issue. I'm sorry, but this is fucking ridiculous.
In case you don't want to read the entire article... essentially it is saying that community members are not happy with a proposal to turn a deserted hotel into a low-income housing development. Here are some of their statements regarding the issue:
"How can I guarantee I am not going to find crack pipes in the park?"
"Can you guarantee my children are not going to see someone sucking on their pipe? These people will kill you for 40 dollars."
"We are going to have people peeing on our lawns"
People are also concerned about "property values, crime rates, drug and alcohol abuse and the screening process for potential renters".
People CLAPPED after these statements.
Okay seriously... how the fuck can you even respond to something like this? These statements are ill-informed and utterly ridiculous. I'm so shocked that I can barely articulate a response.
K first off, low income housing is not a half-way house!
Low income housing is for the working-poor AKA people who can't afford the ridiculous amount of money it costs to rent in today's economy. A lot of the people are EDUCATED (something these residents don't appear to be) and are just having trouble finding employment. Many of these people have been laid off of high-paying jobs. They are average, hard-working people who have fallen on tough times and need a little help to get their foot back in the door.
Essentially, as of right now, it could be someone just like ME living there. Currently, as a recent graduate with debt, I could be living into one of these housing developments and I promise I would not be "smoking my pipe", killing your children for "40 dollars" or "peeing on your lawn". If someone has a PLACE TO LIVE they will be using the toilets in their HOME. This could be these people if they ever find themselves on tough times. What happens if spouses get laid off and they have to settle for a low-paying job? Try making 9 dollars an hour and living on that. They are working jobs that only offer minimum wage and therefore have difficulty in a city that has such a high cost of living.
I'm not even going to get into the "property values" argument. Fuck their property values, you're helping people find a place to live. You're helping people live better lives. The article states that there is a waiting list of 4,000 people who are waiting for affordable housing in Calgary. That's ridiculously high. These are just the people who have applied! Who know that it is even an option!
However, with ill-informed residents like these people, it sadly wouldn't be an option. Shit like this drives me up the wall. Please, for the love of God, educate yourself before you make yourself look like a total idiot.

We start with an hour and we find we waste the day
